About

My name is Timi Nagy. On completion of my Masters Degree in Physical Education I decided to put my teaching career on hold and see what the world had to offer. I arrived in Sydney from Hungary in 1999 and landed my first job at the University of New South Wales teaching sport and swimming to children. I immediately fell in love with teaching swimming. I have worked at various swim schools in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and have been influenced by many teaching methods from which I have developed my own unique style. I have been running Platypus Swim school at Rose Bay since 2006. It has always had high standard of teaching and safety reputation. We have been working closely with the community and local surf clubs.

Living in Australia surrounded by water almost everywhere we go from beaches to rivers to public swimming pools to private backyard pools which made me realise the importance of learning to swim from a young age and just how important it is to be involved in a water safety program.

Sydney lacks quality and specially designed aquatic centres, which can proved the right approach to create a safe environment for children to learn water safety skills. Drowning is the greatest cause of accidental death in children under the age of five in Australia. This trend is similar in other comparable nations. Drowning prevention is about creating a number of barriers to protect the child. On average six children drown in NSW backyard swimming pools each year, with many more suffering permanent brain damage from near drownings. Last year 30 children aged four and under were a victim of near drownings in backyard pools.
