Children need a fun learning environment that fosters encouragement and feelings of success. Warm water is essential to relax frightened children and enable them to learn to swim so our pool is heated to 32°C and our lessons are structured to maximum efficiency. Clovelly Splash is a private teaching school and does not have the distraction of public swimmers. Parents are requested to stay and watch their children’s progress from our viewing room. Our water is salt-chlorinated so we can run more consistent chlorine level, therefore our water is less harsh on the skin, hair and swimwear.
A memo has been distributed to all staff asking them to read and sign all policies and procedures relating to health, hygiene and infection control.
Close monitoring of staff to ensure the highest standard of health and hygiene procedures are being followed.
The centre is cleaned 3 times a day.

Our teaching philosophy focuses on swimmers learning how to achieve basic swim skills with good technique. We understand parents want their children to be safe in and around the water and we believe that small class sizes help swimmers of all ages to learn to swim in less time.
From day one we commit to build strong foundations for good swimming techniques. We all know old habits are hard to break so our teachers aim to create good habits from the very first lesson. Good swimming techniques are skills that will last a lifetime.
On completion of my Masters Degree in Physical Education I decided to put my teaching career on hold and see what the world had to offer. I arrived in Sydney from Hungary in 1999 and landed my first job at the University of New South Wales teaching sport and swimming to children. I immediately fell in love with teaching swimming. I have worked at various swim schools in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and have been influenced by many teaching methods from which I have developed my own unique style. I have been running Platypus Swim school at Rose Bay since 2006.
It has always had high standard of teaching and safety reputation. We have been working closely with the community and local surf clubs.
Living in Australia surrounded by water almost everywhere made me realise the importance of learning to swim from a young age and just how important it is to be involved in a water safety program.
At Clovelly Splash Swim School we pride ourselves on quality instruction and small class sizes to benefit the students’ progression from toddler swimming / nervous beginner to a confident swimming level for children between 24 months and 8 years old. We have introduced an innovative learn to swim program with 4 skill levels. The program focuses on the early development of fundamental skills and safety that enables the students to become competent swimmers. The Learn to swim program is endorsed by Austswim and is conducted by Austswim and Swimming Australia qualified instructors.
This level is for total beginners (no previous swimming class) or for kids transitioning from classes with parents in the pool to classes with only a teacher in the pool.

Sydney lacks quality and specially designed aquatic centres, which can proved the right approach to create a safe environment for children to learn water safety skills. Drowning is the greatest cause of accidental death in children under the age of five in Australia. This trend is similar in other comparable nations. Drowning prevention is about creating a number of barriers to protect the child. On average six children drown in NSW backyard swimming pools each year, with many more suffering permanent brain damage from near drownings. Last year 30 children aged four and under were a victim of near drownings in backyard pools.
This level is for total beginners (no previous swimming class) or for kids transitioning from classes with parents in the pool to classes with only a teacher in the pool. Children learn to float on their backs and dog paddle unaided with their faces in the water. Beginner level is all about learning to be in the “big pool” without mum and dad. It’s a gentle learning experience for children to learn about water safety, taking turns and getting confident in how their body works in the water at this age. This transition is usually fairly smooth and teaches children to take instruction from someone other than their parents, while giving them the opportunity to learn from their peers and develop social skills. We allow parents to get into the water if it is absolutely necessary but try to encourage them to stay out if they can.
Age- 24 months + (max 2 pupils per class)
